The
Trail Map on the right includes
some labeling and symbols more
appropriate for use by the general
public. The Orienteering Map
on the left has some greater
detail that is important for
the precise navigational needs
of a competitive Orienteerer.
Note that different colors are
used to represent the same features
as well. The Orienteering Map
uses white to represent open,
forested land, whereas the Trail
Map uses light green for the
same area. USGS topographic
maps use this same convention,
light green for forested areas.
Note the
road and parking lot at the
upper left corner of the Trail
Map. These features are not
seen on the Orienteering Map
as they were constructed between
production of the two maps.
