Our
President
Ed Hicks has been
actively involved with the sport of Orienteering since 1973. He has
participated in hundreds of foot, bike and ski events throughout the United
States and in Europe.
He was president of the
Westchester Orienteering Club (now
Hudson Valley Orienteering Club)
in the early 1980's and was the organizer of the 1980 national (US)
Orienteering convention. He has been the meet director for four
national-level (“A”) meets.
Ed currently teaches a college
course entitled "Multidisciplinary
Teaching Techniques Taught through Map Adventures (Orienteering)"
for The College of New Rochelle and St. Michael's College.
Prior to heading-up Orienteering
Unlimited on a full-time basis, Ed spent 32 years teaching at both the
elementary and middle school levels. It was while teaching science at Blue Mt.
Middle School that he discovered Orienteering - "The Thinking Sport."
In addition to incorporating orienteering into his classroom programs, Ed also
pioneered computer and outdoor education programs at Blue Mt. Middle School.
